Default PvP extreme weekend & event season... Why?

A lot of news about the Extreme weekend and the start of the event season. Maybe beta players know all about this, but for those like me who bought the game for adventuring and pve it hardly makes sense. What to expect? And, more importantly, where is the balance with PvE? Will there be a a grint tournament too? A special dungeon hunt PvE weekend? Sorry for the sarcasm, but we are having PvP updates now for 2 months, hear only about PvP events and a promisses about 'PvE is next in the row' seem to be forgotten...

The recent publications on the official site are only about PvP, I think its time for some PvE updates now (and than I mean a LOT more than news about new PvE maps; I'm talking about balance. For every PvP event I reason there should be an alternative PvE event)

they have to integrate things and see how they work.

show some patience and give them time to get things ready for us

I think this whole PvP "Extreme" weekend thing is to stall and keep people from complaning about pushing back the Sorrows Furnace area.

nah this is BS i expected Sorrows furnace to be an update for the summer. They just talked about new map areas cuz so many got bored with the game a little less than two months after it released. I agree with Myth on this one. Its just a stall. At this pace the next chapter wont come out for another year. if it takes them 3 months just for a map update how long will it take them for the chapter update which is due around thanksgiving. which is a few months away now

Summer isn't over yet. They've still got 4 weeks. Just because you've had to return to school doesn't make summer end.

Still, it would've been nice had they never told us about the update, and just brought it upon us. Then we'd all be happily surprised, and not pissed off

i find this "summer isnt over yet" replies really annoying.
what happens if they release it on 26th of september?
will the universe cease to exist?!

you dont have to bend over word and phrase ever officially made by anet...
if you name something summer update, EVERYONE thinks of an update in the mid of summer.
if they dont manage to do it, ok some problems occured, it wont make anet a worse firm in my eyes if they take the time to improve it.
but people that hide behind wordings to protect their favourite firm are just pitiful.

and it would indeed be nice to have ANY information on the state of the update.

I did not have Sorrows furnace in mind when I posted this. Its more structural: Anet is talking about the starting of the event season. It comes with lots of balancing mainly to make PvP better. Not for the first time I get the feeling that Anet's main issue with this game is to keep the PvP circus healthy at all cost. I think its fair to ask for more balance, e.g:

-A roleplaying contest where parties solve a special map the best way they can, not only slaying monsters, but also solving riddles, the need to use a wide variation of skills from differend professions, etc.
-Solo contests where players with henchmen or alone gather as much buckazoids as they can in a limited period of time.
-Special missions weekends where solving the missions give you a very special cool looking award...

There are so many things possible, I sincerely hope the 'event season' will be more than regular PvP contests like we have this weekend

Obviously EVERYONE doesnt consider it mid summer. they said exactly what they needed to say in order to make sure people had a rough idea of when it was coming out. if you have followed ANY video game you know that 90% of the time when specific dates are given for release, it is the proverbeal "kiss of death" and things never come out on time.........

Will you people give it a rest?? I have checked out soo much forums and every1 is getting mad about the skill change, and some people getting mad about this PvPX. As Gw said they would be working on a way to increase the rate at which you get faction. I believe this is something of what they had in mind, except they might keep it this way (Maybe not as much faction thou).
Another thing is that they need to make changes to things that need changes, you solo monks are mad that they changed protective bond, just use protective spirit gezz. This needed to be changed. Another thing is that they arent just working on PvP stuff. That new summer update is bound to come. And every1 is saying it's taking them soo long. I bet none of you have ever programed before. If you haven't it isn't easy. Takes forever to work simple scripts and stuff like that. They said they'll release it. Give them time

This is the first I'd heard of Event Season and it makes me quite excited. I highly doubt that all the events will be PvP considering the cool nature of some of the stuff I had heard about in the BWEs.

So far we have:

Frog (a damn cool event that spread like a fire through the community and I hope isn't ended)
PvPx (good for PvP players, useless to PvE players except that they won't get Capping Parasites along on missions)

hoping for more

I have to agree with the OP here, Every update bar 2 have been to balance PvP. We got Dwarven Ale and a fix for traders. WHOOOHOOO! Lets all throw a party.

I think this can be eased very quickly and simply. The PvE people don't want everything now but we would like to see some effort being put in to our side of the game. Someting small every week like the dwarven ale would have been nice.

Many of the actions are already in the game why won't A.net provide the props for them. Like a lute or guitar for the /airguitar command, or drums and other instruments. The actions are there the only thing that needs to be done are a few models and textures and some code to position them on the character when the command is used. Then pop them in a few shops or hide some crafters with them around and hey presto a simple and quick update for the PvE players. It's not much but it would show they care about the PvE side. At the moment PvE is the neglected child.

keep teling them to add more stuff for guilds ^^

way back in soma, i used to love doing guild made quests. our leader used to pop up lists of stuff you could get a reward for gathering (you needed them for quests and to make items and to make armours ect)
new players always needed giant spider eyes for around lvl 12 to get into the dungeon so you were encouraged to collect them and drop them into the guild stash (something else i hope they realy are giving us^^ a reason to wear a *spits* cape and get a hall)

i also miss the guild hunts, where we all used to go down the dungeon and crawl to the bottom as a group and sometimes, as a Guild. then we would stand at the Flame Circle on lvl 2 and play about with ropleplaying type stuff and make the non RPers think we were nuts ^^

but the hunts were usefull cause all the cash and items were deposited into the guild stash if you were on a hunt with or for your Guild.

if they add even the guild stash to the next chapter, i will certainly be ok waiting....specialy considering i have had the game since it went retail and have just made it to lvl 20 with my main char..yeah, im slow, but i still have fun getting there...^^
